A new SPIN on Circle Weaving!

I saw this on pinterest recently and I had to try it with my third graders. What I like about using the CD for circle weaving is that it is smaller than the paper plates taking less time, the students are even more excited about it because it is a CD, and the are neat looking when they are finished. The cons... the CD's do not offer a slit for the warp to rest in so the strings slide around making it more difficult to weave on then the plate. I then sent home the finished products with the students so that they could turn them into ornaments for their Christmas trees :)

  1. Interesting idea with the CD! How did you get the yarn to stay? Did you have them mark off where the yarn should be so that it was even?

  2. After a couple rows of weaving, the yarn stays in place better. All in all, much better than the paper plate, in my opinion. Glad you found this for me to steal!

  3. It's less work too because I don't have to cut the slots either! The yarn does kinda stay on it's own, I just tell the kiddos when they are weaving their warp to make sure that they have an odd number of warp threads.

  4. I am in process with this with my 3rd graders. I taped the warp to the back, went through the hole until I got 13 warp threads. It went very quickly one night while I was watching mindless tv. The cds are so much nicer than the plates. I never liked the finished look of plate or taking the weaving off of the plate. I am gluing donated felt to the back. The kids are really excited to use the cds very shinny.
